San Luis Obispo County Office Education
There are many reasons why people love to visit local farmer's markets. Not only is the produce delicious, fresh and ripe, but going to a farmers' market is a great way to support the community and reduce our carbon footprint.
Why go to a Farmer's Market in San Luis Obispo
- At a local farmers' market in San Luis Obispo County, shoppers can be confident that the produce has been grown locally in California, not shipped from other countries like Chile, China, Mexico, and others, with great expense of carbon fuel.
- Fruit and vegetables at California farmers markets are picked when ripe, ensuring that they are at the height of their flavor and freshness when they are sold.
- Shoppers can find more variety in produce at a San Luis Obispo farmer's market than at the typical big-box supermarket.
- Produce at farmers' markets is often organic or close to it, ensuring that shoppers are eating food that is better for their health. Shoppers can also ask the farmer and producer about pesticide use and farming practices.
- Going to a farmer's market is fun! Often a farmer's market is a bit like a fair, with specialty goods being sold and sometimes performances by local talents.
Perhaps the most popular and famous farmer's market in the area is the San Luis Obispo downtown farmer's market on Thursday nights. There are, however, many more farmer's markets around, and you can visit one almost any day of the week. Pair a morning at a farmer's market with an afternoon at a winery, and visitors have got the perfect day in San Luis Obispo travel.
