Bioinformatics is an emerging field that primarily has found its roots in the Human Genome Project that was published in February of 2001. The Human Genome Project encompassed finding some 25,000 genes in the human body and storing the information into a database that could be used internationally for a backdrop to inspire research.

Emerging Algorithms and Tools

The emerging algorithms and tools that came about from the thirteen year Human Genome Project got called bioninformatics during the process. The new science combining biology and information technology emerged. Now more than ever, the physical sciences are intermingling with biology to help medical professionals envision new diagnostic tools and to see how gene mapping or virus activity occurs. Genomic mapping speeds up the scientific process. Computers allow huge numbers to be crunched which would have normally taken months by hand, and animation tools allow professors to teach emerging scientists.
